Sean Thomas
2019 – 2021
Sean Thomas started coaching with Stone Bridge Rowing Club in 2016 as an assistant coach. As the parent of one of the athletes, he stepped up and helped out with coaching whenever necessary. He learned the sport and has a love for coaching. When the need for a Head Coach arose in the summer of 2018, he jumped at the opportunity to begin serving as Head Coach.
Coach Thomas has a genuine love for the sport of Rowing and for mentoring young people. It is important to him that he not only helps shape the rowers into the best athletes that they can be, but that he also helps them become the best students and people that they can be.
Kayla McCormack
2016 – 2018
Kayla McCormack started coaching with Stone Bridge Rowing Club December in 2013 and served as Head Coach from 2016-2018. As a Loudoun County Teacher she was able to connect with the team through the schools. “I love working with the high school age group because it’s a time of unlocking potential and the building of self. Being a coach and teaching the fundamentals of being a thriving academic athlete is one of the most enjoyable things I do.”
Founding Coach Kevin Suter
2011 – 2015
Kevin Suter started the Stone Bridge High School rowing team with the support of his wife Chris.
He started coaching rowing while attending Marietta College where his freshman boat came in third at the Dad Vail Regatta. Suter was also the Head Coach for Briar Woods High School when they started their program. Suter holds a Level II Coaching Certification from USROWING
He was fortunate to grow up in a rowing family where he started rowing for his father Robert Suter at LaSalle High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Suter spent his summers in High School rowing for PennAC for Coach Chuck Crawford.
Coach Suter rowed for four years for Marietta College boating the freshman eight and then the varsity lightweight eight. Following college, Coach Suter rowed for Undine Boat Club and Wilmington Rowing Center prior to moving to Ashburn where he was the first person to start rowing on the Beaver Dam Reservoir. Coach Suter continues to race at masters level events with his brother (John) and in father & child events with his daughter (Julie) and son (Sean).
Following the 2015 season, Coach Suter and his wife Chris relocated to Houston, Texas for work. Coach Suter continues to support the program from afar and likes to follow the progress of his athletes that continue to row in college. If you are ever in the Houston area, Coach and Mrs. Suter would love to have you out to the lake.
